Maruti Alto on top, Swift slips, Tata Punch breaks into top 10 in October 2021, Auto News, ET Auto

In all, hatchbacks accounted for nearly 40 percent of all cars sold in the country last month, followed by SUVs at 34 percent and MUVs at 15 percent.

The entry level small cars may be out of favour for sometime but there is still juice left in the old workhorse Maruti Suzuki Alto.

The car that was displaced as the best selling car in India on an annual basis last year by stablemate Swift, emerged as the bestselling brand once again in October capitalising on Swift’s massive decline. Its tally of 17,389 units was only 2.6 percent less than last October’s 17,850 units. Swift registered a 63 percent decline at just 9,180 units to fall down the pecking order to the number 9 slot.
