Britishvolt in “advanced discussions” with UK/EU OEMs | Automotive Industry News

Britishvolt states it is in “superior conversations” with British isles and EU OEMS, regarding EV battery uptake, but is unable to expose particulars of its negotiations.

The news arrives warm on the heels of remarks by Nissan COO, Ashwani Gupta not ruling out acquiring batteries from other sources, including from the Britishvolt gigafactory currently being planned for Blyth in North East England, if demand for electric powered cars improved.

Nissan makes close to 30,000 Leaf electric powered cars at its Sunderland manufacturing facility, most with a regionally-sourced forty kilowatt-hour battery. They stay tariff-totally free when exported to the EU. However, a greater-selection battery is at present imported from Japan.
