The Geneva Motor Present will not be held in 2021 thanks to the money complications caused by the coronavirus pandemic as nicely as poor turnout from the world’s motoring makers.

Soon after the cancellation of this year’s Geneva Motor Present, the event’s organisers requested a bank loan from the Swiss governing administration to assist offset the losses incurred, which are valued at an believed eleven million Swiss Francs (roughly £9.four million).

In early June, the Swiss governing administration granted the event’s organisers a 16.8 million Franc (£14.3 million) bailout – but the bank loan has been turned down by the Geneva Motor Show’s board, as the reimbursement conditions would cripple the event’s funds more.

The very first reimbursement of one million Francs (all around £850,000) was thanks in June 2021. Another of the conditions of the agreement was that a Geneva Motor Present had to be held next year, which grew to become unlikely thanks to the unwillingness of the world’s motoring makers to take part following a survey by the show’s organisers.

The survey also revealed that many world wide car brand names would choose to have the party in 2022, to give them ample time to recuperate some of the losses suffered through the pandemic.

Due to this chain of occasions, the Geneva Motor Show’s Foundation Board has voted in favour of the event’s sale to Palexpo SA, which is the organising board who manages the motor show’s yearly venue.

The sale would transfer all of the event’s legal rights to Palexpo SA and ideally save the motor show from dissolution. The Geneva Motor Present remains the major public party in Switzerland – and its removing from the calendar would negatively impact the Swiss financial state by an believed 200 million Swiss Francs (all around £171 million) per year.
