Michael Fassbender to race for Porsche in 2020 European Le Mans Series

Hollywood A-lister Michael Fassbender will contest the 2020 European Le Mans Sequence (ELMS) Porsche 911 RSR fielded by the Proton Level of competition race group, Porsche announced Friday. He joins the likes of Steve McQueen, Paul Newman and Patrick Dempsey — a further Porsche racer — in the ranks of Hollywood-actors-turned-incredibly hot-shoes.

“Even just before I started performing, I had a big dream to go racing. It was crystal clear to me at a young age. My father was an avid driver and he taught me a lot,” Fassbender said in Porsche’s announcement. 

Fassbender has been doing work for a number of years towards his final target of racing in the notorious 24 Several hours of Le Mans. His initially flavor of professional-level levels of competition arrived in succession of entries in many Ferrari Obstacle collection in 2017 and 2018 guiding the wheel of a Ferrari 488 Obstacle.

In 2019, he campaigned in Germany’s Porsche Sports Cup collection guiding the wheel of a Porsche 911 GT3 Cup car, which was the target of the Porsche-developed “Highway to Le Mans” YouTube collection, which Fassbender narrated.

“I’ve just generally felt drawn to likely fast into a corner — and fast out — and just obviously felt linked to it,” Fassbender said in the collection trailer. “And now I want to go to the final put,” he said, referring to Le Mans by itself. 

“It’s going to be appealing to see how Michael progresses. As a group, we’re delighted to be in a position to accompany him on his ‘Road to Le Mans,'” said Proton Level of competition group owner Christian Ried. Fassbender will share the #ninety three 911 RSR with factory driver Richard Lietz and Felipe Fernández Laser. 

Fassbender portrays Magneto in the most up-to-date incarnations of the “X-Gentlemen” motion picture franchise and played the title role in 2015’s “Steve Careers,” for which he acquired an Academy Award nomination for very best actor he was also nominated for very best supporting actor for his portrayal of Edwin Epps in 2013’s “twelve Several years a Slave.”
