Tesla Model S Plaid edges Porsche 911 GT2 RS at Laguna Seca

The Unplugged Functionality Tesla Product S Plaid race car lapped Laguna Seca more rapidly than a Porsche 911 GT2 RS in the fingers of pro driver Randy Pobst, coming in second only to the McLaren Senna at California’s most prestigious road class.

“Yet another significant working day for the Unplugged Functionality Tesla Product S Plaid team,” Pobst posted to Instagram. “New EV lap history! With UP leaders Avi and Ben. 156 mph into Convert Two at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca, astonishing speed from a luxurious four-doorway sedan. This car is not significantly at all from the inventory street car.”

The car, identified to the team as Dark Helmet, ran a 1:28.213 lap – just a tenth of a second more rapidly than the significant-power monitor-spec Porsche and six/10ths at the rear of the track’s history-holder. All a few were being pushed by Pobst.  Earlier this summertime, Unplugged Functionality took the Product S Plaid race car up Pikes Peak, ending 1st in the exhibition class and 10th in general at the environment-renowned hill climb. After Pikes Peak, Pobst referred to as Dark Helmet “the most terrible-to-the-bone electric car at any time produced.”
