Over half of drivers break 30mph limits

Additional than half of car motorists break 30mph velocity limits, formal Government figures have unveiled.

Newly unveiled Department for Transportation studies for 2019 exhibit that motorists are most probable to break 30mph velocity limits, with fifty four per cent of motorists carrying out so. On motorways, particularly half of motorists break the velocity restrict, when only 9 per cent of motorists break the 60mph barrier on single carriageway national velocity restrict roads.

The figures for past calendar year also exhibit 12 per cent of motorists break the velocity restrict on motorways by much more than 10mph. Only 6 per cent did so on 30mph roads and the figure was just one per cent on single carriageway national velocity restrict roads.

On motorways, 49 per cent of van motorists broke the velocity restrict, when fifty five per cent did so in 30mph zones. In the meantime, 99 per cent of articulated lorries caught to the restrict on motorways – with velocity limiters no doubt taking part in a portion – but worryingly only fifty six per cent of HGVs obeyed 30mph limits.

Exceeding the velocity restrict was a contributory factor in 5.one per cent of highway traffic incidents in 2018, up from four.8 per cent in 2017. The Department for Transportation says that compliance with velocity limits has broadly remained stable since 2011.

RAC highway basic safety spokesman Simon Williams named the figures “alarming”, including: “We know that all through the days of demanding lockdown there was a serious prevalence of rushing in developed-up parts. Breaking velocity limits is unlawful and places anyone applying the highway in risk. It’s crucial the Government’s evaluation into highway policing addresses the elephant in the place – a lack of enforcement.”
